Structure & Governance

The PhD Course is steered through a well-defined structure of governance and oversight bodies designed to ensure academic excellence, fairness, and transparent decision-making. Below is an overview of the main bodies, their responsibilities, and membership

Leadership & Governing Council

Coordinator (Course Head)

• Lucia Regolin

Deputy Coordinator

• Francesca Peressotti

Delegates

• Sara Scrimin (DPSS delegate)
• Barbara Carretti (DPG delegate)

The Governing Council is composed by the Head, Deputy Head, the two delegates, and two additional members elected by the academic board:

• Gionmarco Altoè
• Marco Bertamini

In addition, two student representatives, elected among all the students representatives:

• Ambra Perugini (cycle 39)
• Roberta Cessa (cycle 39)

The role of the Council is to define strategic directions, coordinate major decisions, oversee administrative and academic policies, and ensure that the course operates in alignment with university and departmental regulations

Academic Board

The Academic Board is the principal scientific body of the doctoral program. Its aims include:

⁃ Supervising the scientific quality of the PhD curriculum and its implementation
⁃ Approving proposals for new course offerings or curricular changes
⁃ Monitoring progress and evaluation standards for doctoral students
⁃ Ensuring coherence across research lines and interdisciplinarity

The Academic Board is composed of doctoral students from different cycles, ensuring student representation. Current members include:

• Alice Valdesalici (cycle 38)
• Ambra Perugini (cycle 39)
• Giulia Stefanelli (cycle 39)
• Tommaso Galeotti (cycle 39)
• Ludovica Natali (cycle 39)
• Roberta Cessa (cycle 39)
• Stefano Dalla Bona (cycle 40)
• Sara Noacco (cycle 40)
• Lorenzo Atzeni (cycle 40)

Other Governing Bodies and Committees

To complement the primary structures above, several additional bodies support specific tasks, enhance transparency and quality, and facilitate administration. The main committees are the following

Advisory Board (Comitato Consultivo)

The Advisory board (AB) supervises the courses offered by the programme and all the teaching activities (see List of courses). It is also responsible for external advice on strategic direction, internationalization, and quality assurance and self-monitoring and evaluation procedures

The members of the AB are:
• Gianluca Gini (coordinator)
• Francesca Peressotti
• Sara Caviola
• Luca Stefanutti
• Enrico Toffalini
• Ambra Perugini (student, cycle 39)
• Alessia Bastianelli (as non-academic stakeholder)
• Gianmarco Duma

Academic Mediators / Mentorship Working Group

The academic mediators appointed within the PhD in Psychological Science have the task of giving support, listening and proposing possible solutions to PhD students who report relational problems during their PhD course of studies (see dedicated page about Academic Mediators)

• Caterina Suitner
• Nicola Cellini
• Simone Cutini
• Michele Vicovaro

Admission Committee

The Admission Committee (AC) evaluates applications — including CVs, research proposals, reference letters, and interviews — to produce a ranked list of candidates. It is also responsible for conducting the admission interviews for prospective PhD candidates. Each year, the Admission Committee is newly appointed, and its members are selected from among the Faculty of the PhD Programme in Psychological Sciences

CSC and International Scholarship Evaluation Committee

• Giovanna Mioni
• Giovanni Galfano
• Nicola Cellini

Supervisor Assignment Committee

The Supervisor Assignment Committee is a panel of three members elected each year after the completion of the selection process for new PhD candidates. One of the three members was part of the selection committee, one is a member of the Governing Council (Executive Board?), and the third member is chosen among the professors belonging to the PhD faculty board. The Supervisor Assignment Committee operates from the moment the new PhD students are formally enrolled in the first year, and aims to propose the assignments for approval at the first available faculty board meeting after the beginning of the PhD program (November 1st of each year)

Progress Monitoring Committee (Commissione di Monitoraggio)

A Progress Monitoring Committee (PMC) is appointed for each cycle and is responsible for conducting assessment interviews at the end of each academic year to ensure the training and research quality and progress of all PhD students enrolled in that cycle. The committee also monitors student well-being and overall satisfaction with the doctoral experience. Based on its evaluation, the committee provides constructive feedback and determines eligibility for progression to the next year of the program. Three committees are active, one for each cycle; each committee consists of three members selected among the Faculty of the PhD Programme in Psychological Sciences (members of the PMC must not be supervisors of students of that cycle).
⁃ PMC 38 cycle: Giovanni Mento, Caterina Suitner, Michele Vicovaro
⁃ PMC 39 cycle: Gioia Bottesi, Luca Stefanutti, Paola Sessa
⁃ PMC 40 cycle: Giorgio Arcara, Daniela Di Riso, Maja Roch
⁃ PMC 41 cycle: To be nominated.

Notes on Operation & Interaction

⁃ All committees operate under the regulations set by the University of Padova and the PhD program’s internal statutes
⁃ Working groups and committees usually convene at fixed intervals (e.g. quarterly or per semester), but may also act on urgent needs
⁃ Student participation is often ensured via representation on key bodies (e.g. Academic Board, Website Working Group) to maintain transparency and accountability
⁃ Where external reviewers or international scholars are involved (e.g. thesis defense, advisory board), care is taken to maintain fairness, independence, and high standards
